Our infatuation with the BARN is thorough. So much so that Sanctuary Living's history and headquarters are physically connected to this sacred space.

We are committed to telling the story of the BARN—
In your home, through hand-crafted pieces that embody their character and history, and
in the Sanctuary Living Magazine, through articles that capture the depth and details of the families who built them, the materials that made them, the uses that make them fascinating, and the dusty and delightful treasures within.

CONNECTED TO THE BARN—

In evident and mysterious ways, our childhoods inform who we become and what we hold as sacred.
Growing up in Kansas—spending summers running through the wheat fields, dancing in the sprinklers in a firefly twilight, and laying on hay holding new born barn kitties up to the light— made me me the woman I am today. The life of a BARN seems simple and pure. And yet, just as the people we love, there is so much more than meets the eye. The BARN represents the hard life. The get-your-fingers-dirty and sleeves-rolled-up life. It speaks to rising at dawn and caring for creatures even to the point of neglecting yourself.

The life of a BARN brings shelter to living things, food sources, crops, and necessary things like tractor, plough, and scythe. It stores a family's possessions and holds a farmer's dreams. The value of the BARN cannot be overstated. It draws entire communities together to raise them, and raises up generations of bold, can-do men and women who participate in the bounty of the seasons in profound and mysterious ways.

Giving comfort and rest to weary animals, playing host to celebrations where neighbors stomp and fiddle, and proudly acting as coveted venues for loved ones to witness the "I Do's,"  the BARN is the one place, the iconic place, where the HARVEST OF LIFE in all its texture—dirty, smelly, raw, and real—is encapsulated.

For a child become Storyteller, there's no better place than the BARN to activate the imagination and the senses—Janene Kraft, Founder, Sanctuary Living
